Overview

The principle of MSc Business Psychology revolves around the intersection of human behaviour and business practices. It aims to expose an individual from the Business stream to understand, analyse, and leverage human behaviour within organisational contexts as well as allowing individuals from Psychology stream to apply their knowledge in managing and increasing the human engagement in businesses. 

The teaching faculty in the MSc Business Psychology is expected to comprise of a panel possessing a wealth of skill and experience. Academic excellence providing students with a strong academic foundation, professional experience beyond their academic credentials including business, consulting, and psychology, specialized expertise, effective pedagogy from lectures and discussions to case studies and experiential exercises, mentorship and guidance together with research and scholarship are expected to cultivate a supportive learning environment where students can thrive academically, professionally, and personally.

The MSc Business Psychology program aims to establish a strong foundation for career progression or for anyone exploring new employment prospects.

Teaching & Learning

All modules are mandatory for the MSc in Business Psychology degree certificate to be offered. If you have a difficulty in completing the programme, the fall-back options are available upon meeting needed completion of credits.

  • Introduction to Business Psychology – Understand the science behind human mind,  behaviours, human attributes at the work place, components of Motivation and new techniques to motivate people at work, Theories of Learning that can be used in business transformation, why people forget and how to improve memory, what is cognitive dissonance and implications to brand marketing
  • Contemporary Psychology in Business – Understanding the new employee, transition at workplace, how loyalty and conformity works at work, managing diversity, stress, resilience at work. How perceptions of people can be influenced in the purchasing of brands, what is selective perception and implications to business. How attitudes of people can be changed over time in an organization. How attitudes can be measured and the link to business growth strategies. The implications of attitude for corporate campaigns and brand communication.
  • Behavioural Psychology and Wellbeing – Science behind personality traits, Psychology of people management, Coaching your team, Psychometrics to measure subjectivity, Behaviour models and cognition. The psychology behind Group influence on individual behaviour, how communications can be made more impactful. What is absolute threshold and implications to business. Personality traits and how it influences leadership strategies.
  • Society and the Mind – Balance theory at work, cognitive dissonance that can tilt boss-subordinate relationships, managing new generations of employees like Gen Z and Gen Alpha, team work and how complex principles like status and roles impact team performance,, inspiring ethics at work, mediation. Social class classifications and how it influences the types of products and services purchased. 
  • Cross Cultural Leadership and Management – Mapping business environment, inclusion, measures of culture at work place, leading and following as needed, B2B model at workplace. What is Culture and components that must be known when practicing international marketing, How a culture can have an impact on global Branding strategies. 
  • Personal and Organisational Effectiveness – Managing team conflicts, training, developing, mentoring the team, motivation for productive output, directing a team for organizational goal, technology and AI at work.   • Research Methods – Conducting a business research, scientific method of surveying, qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection. How qualitative data collection takes place and how the data can be analysed.
  • Dissertation – resolving a practical gap in your organization and how Psychological principles helps to improve organizational performance.

Approved entry requirements of University of Staffordshire include combination of higher education and industry expertise. Consumer Behaviour and Marketing that explores consumer motivations, attitudes, and purchasing decisions, essential for successful marketing strategies will also be among the areas of teaching. Leadership and Organizational Behaviour is also embedded in the programme giving knowledge of leadership styles, emotional intelligence, and organizational behaviour, enabling you to lead teams and drive organizational change. 

Workplace Well-being and Stress Management including stress management, work-life balance, and organizational support systems, promoting a healthy and productive workforce are among further areas of study. 

The researching component together with ethical considerations including understanding the ethical implications of business decisions, research ethics will also be explored. The programme further provides you with exposure in Social Psychology, Industrial Psychology, Educational and Occupational Psychology.
