Overview

Digital marketing channels have revolutionised business operations. With the growth of markets and technologies, the scope for digital marketing is only going to continue to expand and there is an immense potential for its growth in Sri Lanka. The BSc (Hons) Digital and Social Media Marketing will equip students with the skills and experience that employers demand of modern marketing professionals.

We teach everything through a real-world perspective, which means you will learn how to apply your knowledge. You will graduate with experience of how to develop and implement a digital marketing strategy, use search engine optimisation and create content for videos, images podcasts and webinars. This experience will allow you to innovate and develop creative solutions for digital marketing challenges, while being mindful of ethical business and sustainability that will position you to create long-lasting value for your organisations and become responsible marketing professionals and business leaders. 

Through this degree, you will study the full spectrum of contemporary digital and social media marketing. 

The BSc (Hons) Digital and Social Media Marketing can be completed as a three-year or a two-year (accelerated) full-time degree awarded by Staffordshire University, UK.

Teaching & Learning

In your first year you will learn about the important role marketing plays in the relationships between consumer and organisations. We will equip you with the skills needed to begin analysing digital marketing techniques and how to create content that would best fit into a social media strategy to leverage the variety of platforms used by organisations to communicate with their consumers. This will help you in identifying how improvements can be made to digital communications to better deliver your message and understand how market research and data can be used to align marketing activities to business objectives.

Your second year will follow on from this revising the previous year and improving on it with a variety of new skills for you to learn and utilise in the workplace. You will begin to look at how effective marketing strategies can be used to achieve growth in a organisation and how to responsibly manage the brand of a business on a global scale diving into how different cultures will perceive certain marketing strategies and understand the corporate, social and ethical aspects of a complex global market. While improving on data analysis skills and how it can be used beyond just social media and how to analyse consumer needs in a ever changing market by evaluating consumer values.

During your third year you will be able to further expand on the skills from the previous years and put them into practice working with an organisation of your choice to identify and area of research beneficial to the both of you. This will develop experience in consultancy and project management as you will get yourself immersed in real time problem solving while developing a set of recommendations based on your finding and present them to the organisation. The project could range from drawing up a social media strategy to helping the business improve its customer experience and website.

You will be taught via a combination of lectures, tutorials, and independent study. You will use resources including books, journals and digital databases, social media resource banks and more to immerse yourself in each discipline and you will be challenged to picture what the business landscape of the future will be. To build further business links, there will also be career talks, visits and guest speakers from industry. You’ll learn from staff who bring a wealth of business experience and research expertise. 

On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: BSc (Hons) Business Management.

Admission Requirements

The minimum qualifications required for admission to the programme on the standard route are:

A. GCE Advanced Level

  • Sri Lankan: 3 passes or
  • London, Cambridge or Edexcel : 3 D passes or
  • Any combination totalling to 12 points from the following tariff scheme:

The minimum qualifications required for admission to the programme on the accelerated route are:

A. GCE Advanced Level (Sri Lankan/Edexcel/Cambridge)

  • 3 C passes

and

B. GCE/GCSE Ordinary Level

  • Credit pass (Grade 4) for English

 

You may apply with pending A/L results. Applicants with additional qualifications may receive advanced entry subject to approval from Staffordshire University.
