Congratulations on completing your O/Ls!

The APIIT Sri Lanka Computing Foundation programme is an APIIT Sri Lanka award approved by Staffordshire University, UK as an entry qualification for the Staffordshire University Computing degree programmes offered at APIIT. It is designed to inculcate study skills and practices based on sound educational methods, while instilling responsibility for studies in all students. The programme introduces students to the field of computing while developing numerate, digitial literacy, and business and communication skills. 

The Computing Foundation programme prepares students with GCE O/L qualifications who do not wish to puruse GCE A/L studies or those with inadequate GCE A/L qualifications to enter the Staffordshire University Computing degree programmes. 

The overall rationale of the programme is to prepare students to pursue and complete satisfactorily the degree studies leading to the awards in Computing. 

Teaching & Learning

A diverse range of teaching strategies including lectures, group discussions, presentations, debates, assignments, movement, and a unique project showcase are utilised to develop students’ knowledge and competencies in relation to fundamentals of Computing and Business, digital literacy, analytical skills and numeracy, and communication and language skills. Students are trained to work both in groups and independently during their course of study. 

Modules 

Semester one seeks to equip students with basic study and life skills with the modules English for Academic Purposes and Self & Society as well as discipline-related modules Computing Mathematics and Introduction to Business Environments. These modules will assist students in their transition from secondary school to tertiary education.  

In the second semester, English for Academic Purposes and Self & Society continue. Building on the foundation laid in the first semester, Digital Literacy & Communication and Programming & Web Development are offered.

During your studies, you have access to many learning support platforms and e-resources. Additionally, in support of lifelong learning, we provide students the opportunity to use LinkedIn Learning for their continuous development and earn diverse certifications.

Admission Requirements

The qualifications required for admission to the Computing Foundation programme are: 

 GCE Ordinary Level 

Local Cambridge Pearson Edexcel 
5 passes 5 D passes 5 Grade 3 passes 
AND 
Credit passes for English and Mathematics C passes for English and Mathematics Grade 4 passes for English and Mathematics 

OR

Equivalent qualifications acceptable to APIIT/Staffordshire University 

  • Applicants are individually assessed where the basic criteria are not met, but other qualifications or work experience is present.
