The world of business and finance is ever changing and companies need to stay competitive to survive. Accounting and finance are no longer just about taxation and the management of financial capital. This Accounting and Finance award will help students will discover finance and accounting that underpin modern business enterprises. It will give students a deeper understanding of the crucial role of finance in organisational decision making and the pursuit of competitive advantage. 

Whether your dream is to become a chartered accountant or a financial officer within a larger organisation, you’ll learn the essentials for your future career.

The course will give you an excellent grounding in core accounting, including taxation, financial accounting, auditing and corporate governance. But it also covers so much more, with a strong focus on employability skills. You’ll be delving into contemporary issues, from the challenges of regulating fintech to the growth in cryptocurrency. Using real-life examples, you will also understand the crucial role accounting and finance plays in organisational decision-making, and you’ll build your research skills by completing an in-depth term paper on a topic of your choice.

The BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance can be completed as a three-year or a two-year (accelerated) full-time degree awarded by Staffordshire University, UK.

Teaching & Learning

Through this award, you will study the full spectrum of accounting and finance. The first year will include an introduction to each specialist subject so you can choose which which areas you wish to pursue further for the second and third years. You will study topics in Financial Reporting, Management Accounting, Auditing, Corporate Finance, FinTech and Corporate Governance. The final year includes an in-depth term paper on a topic of your choice.

You will be taught via a combination of lectures, tutorials, and independent study. You will use resources including books, journals and digital databases, social media resource banks and more to immerse yourself in each discipline and you will be challenged to picture what the business landscape of the future will be. To build further business links, there will also be career talks, visits and guest speakers from industry. You’ll learn from staff who bring a wealth of business experience and research expertise. 

On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance.

Admission Requirements

The minimum qualifications required for admission to the programme on the standard route are:

A. GCE Advanced Level

  • Sri Lankan: 3 passes or
  • London, Cambridge or Edexcel : 3 D passes or
  • Any combination totalling to 12 points from the following tariff scheme:

The minimum qualifications required for admission to the programme on the accelerated route are:

A. GCE Advanced Level (Sri Lankan/Edexcel/Cambridge)

  • 3 C passes

and

B. GCE/GCSE Ordinary Level

  • Credit pass (Grade 4) for English

 

You may apply with pending A/L results. Applicants with additional qualifications may receive advanced entry subject to approval from Staffordshire University.

Career Opportunities

This degree will open up a wide range of career opportunities. Some graduates may go on to set up their own accounting firm, while others will move into careers with established firms. Graduates can go on to become accountant trainees and later work towards chartered accountant status. Some students may go on to do further postgraduate research.
