Her academic journey commenced with an LL.B. (Hons) from the University of London, UK, setting the foundation for an illustrious career. Underscoring her commitment to legal excellence, she furthered her academic pursuits with an LL.M. (Distinction) in Commercial Law from the University of the West of England, UWE Bristol. Demonstrating a multidisciplinary approach, she holds a Diploma in Forensic Medicine and Science from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, along with a Certificate in Business Accounting under CIMA.

Professionally, Ms. Rashmi is an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, having achieved second-class passes in all three years at the Sri Lanka Law College.

Her practical journey in the legal realm began with a notable apprenticeship at the Hon. Attorney General’s Department, where she honed her skills by practicing as a lawyer under the mentorship of seasoned senior counsels. After taking the oath of office, she extended her practical experience by working under a select group of experienced Attorneys for a year, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of legal practice.

In the realm of academia, Ms. Rashmi has already garnered significant experience as a lecturer in Law. She has served as a Masters level lecturer at a prestigious private university, demonstrating her ability to engage and instruct students at an advanced level. Her versatility is showcased through her role as a virtual lecturer on an international platform, where she transcends geographical boundaries to contribute to global legal education. Additionally, she has shared her insights as a Guest lecturer at Sri Lanka Law College, contributing to the education and development of future legal professionals.

Ms. Rashmi’s research interests span Human Rights Law and Commercial Law, areas that align with her passion for addressing societal issues and contributing to legal discourse. Her commitment to scholarship is evident in her research publications, where she engages with contemporary legal challenges and explores innovative perspectives:

  • “A critical analysis on the defenses accorded to the employees by Sri Lankan garment manufacturers for their rights affected due to COVID-19.”
