Kaveesha Coswatte

Kaveesha Coswatte (AAL) holds an LLB from University of Peradeniya and is currently engaged in providing pro bono legal services to vulnerable minorities as the Programs and Legal Analyst for iProbono in Sri Lanka. She also assists in legal drafting and reform in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, and has worked as a research assistant for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on human trafficking. In addition to her LLB she holds 3 diplomas in International Relations, Counseling Psychology and French from Sri Lanka and 2 diplomas in Religion, Peace and Conflict from Harvard University, USA and Human Rights: Rights of Refugees from Amnesty International. She has previously worked in post-earthquake Nepal in 2015 for disaster based relief work: facilitating primary and first level education for affected children and also worked as a project manager and educator in Finland for Syrian refugee women and children, and Middle Eastern refugee youth in 2017/2018. In the field of higher education, Kaveesha has co-authored the BSc Law and Psychology program for the Open University of Sri Lanka, unifying the criminal justice system and psychological aspects that contribute to crime and victimology and has also published the only thesis in Sri Lanka on Asylum Seeker Rights and Protection. She is also a published author in both legal research and poetry focused on contemporary social taboos, LGBTIQ+ and gender. As hobbies, Kaveesha is passionate about travelling, singing, slam poetry and volunteering.
