BSc (Hons) Business Management (Human Resource Management)

Programme Overview

The most successful businesses are built on one thing: the ability to attract, develop, and retain exceptional people. This Human Resource Management degree equips you with the strategic knowledge and practical skills to do exactly that, empowering workforces in ways that drive measurable organisational growth.

This HRM degree is part of APIIT's suite of BSc Business Management programmes, which share a set of core modules. Complementary pathways are available in the broader BSc (Hons) Business Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Sustainability.

Covering the fundamentals of business and the professions of the future, this degree explores employee voice and representation, managing and developing people, performance management, reward strategy, and equality, diversity, and inclusion.

The BSc (Hons) Business Management (Human Resource Management) is awarded by the University of Staffordshire, UK, and can be completed as a three-year full-time degree or a two-year accelerated programme.

Admission Requirements

Standard Route

The minimum qualifications required for admission on the standard route are:

  • GCE Advanced Level (Sri Lankan): 3 passes, or
  • GCE Advanced Level (London, Cambridge, or Edexcel): 3 D passes, or
  • Any combination totalling 12 points under the applicable tariff scheme
  • OR
  • APIIT Sri Lanka Business Foundation, and
  • GCE/GCSE Ordinary Level (Sri Lankan, Edexcel, or Cambridge) with a Credit Pass (Grade 4) for English
  • OR
  • An equivalent qualification, subject to approval from the University of Staffordshire
Accelerated Route

The minimum qualifications required for admission on the accelerated route are:

  • GCE Advanced Level (Sri Lankan, Edexcel, or Cambridge): 3 C passes, and
  • GCE/GCSE Ordinary Level Credit Pass (Grade 4) for English

You may apply with pending A/L results. Applicants with additional qualifications may be considered for advanced entry, subject to approval from the University of Staffordshire.

Teaching & Learning

All of our business programmes equip you with a diverse skill set in leadership and management, grounded in a real-world understanding of how organisations operate. You will graduate with a creative approach to problem-solving, the ability to interpret and apply financial data, strong teamwork and communication skills, and confidence in managing time, projects, and resources.

Learning comes to life through a real-world lens. You will engage with live industry briefs, build your own consultancy to work with existing companies, and participate in business simulations that put you in the seat of decision-maker across operations, marketing, and HR.

Teaching is delivered through a combination of lectures, tutorials, and independent study, supported by books, journals, digital databases, and social media resource banks. You will be consistently challenged to interrogate and anticipate the business landscape of the future.

To deepen your industry connections, the programme includes career talks, company visits, and guest speakers from across the profession. Faculty bring a genuine depth of business experience and research expertise to every session.

Throughout your studies, you will have access to a wide range of learning support platforms and e-resources, including LinkedIn Learning for continuous professional development and certifications.

On successful completion, you will be awarded: BSc (Hons) Business Management (Human Resource Management).

This degree opens a broad range of career options across the public and private sectors. Graduates of our Business School have gone on to work in human resources, marketing, and operations management, as well as founding their own ventures. Typical roles include HR Administrator, HR Officer, HR Advisor, HR Consultant, Training and Development Officer, Recruitment Officer, Business Consultant, Business Advisor, and Management Trainee.
