Hasanka Gayan Somaweera is an Assistant Lecturer in Engineering at the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT), Sri Lanka. He holds a B.Sc. Engineering (Honours) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. His academic background also includes minor specialisations in Telecommunication Engineering and Biomedical Engineering.
His teaching interests cover a broad range of electrical and electronic engineering disciplines, including electrical circuits, electrical installations, electronics, electrical machines, control systems, engineering mathematics, embedded systems, Arduino-based applications, and engineering design. He is particularly interested in developing practical and application-oriented learning experiences that enable students to connect theoretical engineering concepts with real-world systems.
His professional and research interests include electrical power systems, renewable energy, thermal imaging for power-system maintenance, electrical safety and smart engineering applications. His research work includes contributions to the study of thermal imaging techniques for improving power-system maintenance and inspection.
