The University of Staffordshire Bachelor of Laws, LL.B., is designed not only to provide in-depth legal knowledge but also to cultivate the professional skills and competencies required for a successful career in law. This three-year LLB programme comprises modules that deliver both foundational and specialized legal knowledge, while systematically developing skills in critical analysis, research, negotiation, advocacy, public speaking, presentation, communication, and teamwork.
In Year 1, students are introduced to the fundamental principles of law and essential legal skills through a range of core modules. Year 2 builds upon this foundation by advancing students’ understanding of core legal doctrines and offering opportunities to focus on areas such as Business Law or Public Law. In the final year, students complete a core module and choose from a wide selection of contemporary, practice-oriented optional modules aligned with their academic interests and career ambitions, including progression to postgraduate study and professional training.
The programme covers the core areas of legal knowledge traditionally required for progression to vocational legal training courses in the UK, including preparation for the Bar and other professional qualification pathways.

Teaching and learning are delivered primarily through lectures, tutorials, and workshops. While lectures provide essential doctrinal knowledge, strong emphasis is placed on tutorials and workshops that encourage peer engagement and independent learning. Workshops are interactive and may include discussions, individual and group presentations, as well as practical exercises such as client interviewing and advisory simulations. These approaches strengthen both substantive legal understanding and key professional skills, including analytical reasoning and problem-solving.
Upon successful completion of the LLB (Hons) Law programme, students are awarded the LLB Honours Degree of the University of Staffordshire — a recognized Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) qualification. This degree enables graduates to pursue postgraduate studies, including LLM programmes, and opens access to diverse career opportunities within the legal profession and related fields.
Throughout the programme, students benefit from extensive learning support platforms and digital resources. In addition, to promote lifelong learning and continuous professional development, students are given access to LinkedIn Learning, enabling them to earn additional certifications and enhance their employability.
Graduates of the LLB (Hons) degree enter the world of work with a distinct advantage: strong legal knowledge complemented by core competencies in employability, enterprise, and entrepreneurship. Holders of this Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) are well prepared to pursue further professional training for legal practice, as well as advanced postgraduate study, including LLM programmes.
Alternatively, graduates may choose from a wide range of career pathways, commencing their professional journeys as Legal Executives, Legal Researchers, Academics, Legislative Officers, and Human Resource Executives. These roles carry significant responsibility and provide meaningful opportunities to contribute to the development of society through law.
The LLB (Hons) degree awarded by the University of Staffordshire is recognized by the Council of Legal Education, the governing body of the legal profession in Sri Lanka. Graduates of this part-time programme are eligible to sit the Sri Lanka Law College Special Entrance Examination and, upon successful completion, may gain admission to Sri Lanka Law College.
APIIT ensures that its LLB graduates are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and professional competencies to pursue careers in law and to undertake the Special Entrance Examination with confidence.
