School of Computing Staff

APIIT School of Computing has a highly qualified and competent panel of lectures. The fulltime staff is supplemented by experienced visiting lectures with industry experience. The highly committed teaching team goes above and beyond the call of duty to make certain that every student receives individual attention and support.

Dr. Harinda received both his PhD and Bachelors Degree in the field of IT from the Deakin University of Australia. Before moving abroad for his higher studies, Dr. Harinda completed his schooling at St Joseph’s College, Colombo. Between 2008 and 2012, he was a sessional academic at Deakin University Australia, where he lectured courses and conducted research related to Pervasive computing, Networking and IT Security.
In addition to his expertise and teaching experience in pervasive computing, networking and IT security he also has a strong background in various IT related disciplines. Dr Harinda has experience in teaching a number of object-oriented programming languages. He is also experienced in web development and database design and development using SQL. Further, He also has practical experience in both systems analysis and design. At APIIT he is a senior lecturer in the area of computer networks and security and is also the Award Coordinator for the CNS award.
Dr Harinda’s research interests include IT/Information security, networking and pervasive computing and he has a number of papers published in those areas. He was a Technical Programme Committee (TPC) member for the Internet of Things track of the 4th International Conference on Emerging Ubiquitous Systems and Pervasive Networks (EUSPN-2013) and a designated reviewer for the 2013 IEEE Symposium on Wireless Technology and Applications (ISWTA 2013). He is also a frequent reviewer for the "Journal of Network and Computer Applications".

Kosala has 15+ years of experience in both academy and industry in the UK, Ireland and Sri Lanka. He is a speaker for software companies and professional bodies. He has supervised undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD research projects in Ireland and Sri Lanka. He is also a PhD thesis examiner. Kosala has experiences in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate modules, reviewing programs and curriculum development, working towards teaching quality, accreditation of academic programs and coordinating international collaborative degree programs. Javed brings in a breadth of experience through variety of roles he has played in past – heading postgraduate education, founding and heading a small-size software development business, management consulting, managing large-size E-Commerce projects, and developing web applications.
He teaches Information System Strategy, Project Management, Software Engineering, Technology Management, Corporate and Business Strategy, E-Commerce, and web technologies.
His teaching experience includes delivery of his specialised subjects for MBA, MSc, BBA, and BSc programmes of different universities from UK, Australia, Sri Lanka, and India. He had also been Consultant Programme Director at Informatics Institute of Technology, where he headed IT & Management MSc programmes of Keele University, UK.
His international industry experience includes working as E-Commerce Project Manager in UK, and as Team Leader in India and Canada. He has also worked on large-size enterprise web projects for clients like Xerox, and Reuters. His best life achievement project is Payhound, an E-Commerce payment gateway currently in use at leading banks in UK and Europe.
He has been pursuing a doctoral thesis in the area of technology adoption. He has received MBA from PIM, Sri Lanka, and PGDCA and B Com from JMI, New Delhi, India. He finds his life interest in physical fitness, travelling, gardening and agriculture, and philanthropy.

Ms. Malsha Fernando holds a BSc. in Management Information Systems (Hons.) from the University College of Dublin in Ireland and is currently following her Masters in Information Technology at University of Colombo School of Computing. She initiated her career in the field of Vocational Training as an instructor prior to joining APIIT as a lecturer.
Her vast knowledge in the field of Information Technology has reinforced her in lecturing the areas such as Java Programming, Object Oriented Concepts and Database Management Systems. Currently she teaches Software Engineering and Computer Networks and Security undergraduate students at APIIT in the fields of System Analysis and Design, Java Programming, Web Programming and Database Programming.
Ms. Malsha is passionate about human behavioral studies and assist students with much interest in grooming them to live their dream. Her other interests include special studying of human behavior and psychology. She finds herself to be a reader and music lover in her leisure time.

Mr. Nipunu Wijesingha holds an MSc in Enterprise Application Development from Sheffield Hallam University UK, and a B.Sc. (Honors) degree in Computer Science from Staffordshire University, UK. Mr. Nipunu Wijesingha completed his schooling at Royal College, Colombo. He is equipped with 9+ years of industry experience in the capacity of a Software Consultant at Virtusa; working on enterprise level software projects for USA and UK clients.
In addition to his industry expertise and teaching experience he also has a strong background in various IT related disciplines. Mr. Wijesingha has experience in UML and OO modeling. He is also experienced in web application development using the latest trends such as MVC, Angular JS and AJAX. He also has experience in database design and development on MS SQL Server platform. Further, He also has practical experience in IT project management using agile methodologies. Mr. Wijesingha teaches various computer programming languages and OOP related subjects for undergraduate and postgraduate students in APIIT.
He is passionate on blending the theory and practical experience and deliver a complete learning experience for his students. Outside work he is a nature enthusiast and a writer.

Ms. Pushpanie Subasinghe obtained her Master’s Degree from the University of Toledo, Ohio, USA and her bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Mathematics specializing Business, Finance and Computational Mathematics from the University of Colombo. Just after completing her undergraduate education she joined MAS holdings as a Planning Executive. After getting some experience she joined Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, University of Colombo as an Assistant Lecturer and worked there in that capacity until she left the country for her masters.
After successfully completing the Master’s Degree from the University of Toledo, Ohio Ms. Subasinghe returned to Sri Lanka and joined APIIT in the capacity of a lecturer. Over last 6 years she has been lecturing all Mathematics and Statistics related modules from foundation level to degree level. Her research interests are in the field of optimization, financial mathematics. In her leisure time she likes to travel around.

Zackiya brings an interesting mix of experiences, working in various positions across various countries. She worked at Millennium IT, Sri Lanka immediately after her Bachelors and continued to the UK for her Masters where she remained for five years, exploring and working for Roche Pharma in Pharmaceutical Information Management. During her MBA, she collaborated with a fellow MBA student and founded a recruitment firm upon winning an investment grant for producing the best business plan.
Zackiya has an MBA (Master of Business Administration) from the University of Hertfordshire – UK, PGD in Business Management from Colombo University and Bachelor of Computer Applications from Bangalore University. She is a past pupil of Holy Family Convent, Colombo 04.
In 2010, Zackiya joined APIIT as Manager, Research and Development and later became an Academic attached to the School of Computing, teaching Professional and Enterprise Development, Project Management and Principles and Practices of Software Development. In her free time, she pursues her entrepreneurial dreams to uplift the livelihood of the needle-women from the rural parts of Sri Lanka. Zackiya has made a few notable photographic contributions in Sri Lanka.

Umanga Pilapitiya holds a B.Sc (hons) degree in Information technology and a M.Sc. degree in Information Technology from SLIIT. She is a lecturer with more than 6 years of working experience and a researcher in Ontology and Semantic Web. Currently, she is attached to School of Computing at Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT) as a Lecturer. She has strong background in various IT disciplines and mostly interested in teaching Software engineering subjects. Before joining APIIT she worked as a Lecturer at Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology
